Series
A series is a number of programs that can be split up into different parts during a number of years and can accrue normally in normal television programs e.g season South park 1-16, characters can be changed or recast in a series E.g Two and a Half men had 10 seasons all togther with charlie sheen and then they made a new season killing of the main character and replacing him with aston kutcher, a series can be ended due to the writers wanting to make something else or just because there is nothing more that takes place in their story for the character.
Serial
A serial is something that has no end to it ,this means things like Eastenders ,Emmerdale and hollyaks, most serials have been running for over 150 years and is watched by nearly everyone around the world,a serial has a few similar things to a series e.g some people can be recasted mainly young people that haven't really been in the soap for as long as others ,but what they tend to do is kill off the characters or make them leave but later on they can be brought back (having left the first time),a serial is made every month (filming) but it is shown everyday with a new episode everyday as it is on going the filming doesn't take long at all rather than in a series it takes up to two three years depending on how many series there is in total of the show.things like eastenders hollyaks emmerdale and corrie will be going on till we die as they are very popular soaps which people will continue watching over the years to come and another important factor is that the story lines will never end ,there will always be new story lines new characters and old characters returning.Crimewatch would be a real life on going serial as it has been on BBC for a number of years based on real life events that happen across the UK ,as long as murders and other unsolved crimes are taking place everyday then they will also ways have Crimewatch.
Single Drama
A single drama is similar to a series because it can end and also it takes a number of years depending on what the writer has planned,e.g Top boy was made in 2011 it was originally meant to be a film but they split it up in episodes on channel 4 and because it was such a hit top boy 2 is currently in the making.A single drama can be split up in to everyday screenings or once a month screening or they could simply just show it whole screening in one day which would basically make it a film so they tend to do so.in the tv hit show Top boy it was shown over a week and the duration lasted and hour they screened it over 4 days a whole story,single dramas can be shown in season like series but because its not your average duration of 21-30mins and its more off an hour then they can continue the single drama into a season 2 and on depending if the program is a hit or not just like dublate drama which was also shown on channel 4 had 14 episodes and 3 seasons.
