Advertisement production for television

Purpose and structure if you are to make a successful advert yourselves

What is advertising?

Adverting is a non-personal from off promotion that is delivered though selected media

What different forms of advertising can you identify?
newspaper , TV advertising cinema radio

Adverts have three basic characteristics?
1.should be easy to understand the audience
2.adverts should be of interest
3.abilities to influence the audience

Adverts try to sell us an image or a lifestyle that we would like have for ourselves. this is called aspiration - we aspire to be as beautiful as the models or live in house as lovely as in the adverts.

Advertisers try to persuade us that their product is different  from other products and that we will have something unique that we will benefit from if we buy it. they call this USP.

What is USP?
It is something differnt that is different from other product.

Watch an advert and try to identify what its USP is?
L'oreal advert is a celebrity endorsment advetisement.

Adverts tend to follow four basic formats. They are listed below and you will below and you will be required to put in what the headings mean, the headings themselves give you a clue.

Product information format

A different style that focus on  is product to stress it out to the audience.basically getting there point across on the advert lets say if they were selling a product to make your shirt clean then maybe they would repeat  a word that stands out to make the audience remember that specific advert.

product image format

An image of product that would be a vital role in adverts so something visual and something the audience can see work.

Personalised format

A style of adversing is what the product could do for the user e.g if it was cream to make you smell good then they would tell you in the advert that this cream has certain values to it and it can help you ,because it does what the product says.

Lifestyle format

Is a style of advertising based on the market according the style of social group.Lets say it was something that everyone likes e.g trainers nike, the advert would target teenagers as it is a trending lifestyle for teens and the latest fashion.

Watch a seriers of adverts, identify which format they fall into.

1. mercat advert -life style
2.cabdurys chacolate- product format
3.pepsi commercial-p
4.l oreal paris- life style

Advertising use a variety of techniques to get us to buy goods or services.they are listed below and you will be required to fill in the gaps.try to think of an example

Celebrity Endorsement

We see mary J blide singing in the Burger King restaurant as if she was on stage to people then the camera zooms out and then we see shes in the burger king advert , Burger King advert and it has mary J blide, they are advertising the food also getting her to do the advert makes  people want to buy it and almost brain washing them to say that "look mary J is eating our product and shes a star, maybe you should as well". This is more of the C-D category because more middle class people would eat burger king than higher class

Nostalgia

Lifestyle Fantasy

Ferero rocher ,adverts for rich people so they say but in the adverts they have a double meaning ,as it shows rich people eating it really it means the chocolate is rich and when eating it makes you feel rich.

Family values
KFC advert has a family bucket meal ,this shows that its a family restaurant and that it is a good place to be,theres an advert that belongs to kfc and it shows the whole family sitting on the table with no food then mum comes home and brings kfc and the husband and kids begin to eat with a smile on their faces ,the slogan of that advert was about mums saving to cook the food.

Happy kids

Adverts for kids that will entertain them,e.g saturday mornings when the kids are up early in the morning and watching cartoons and the adverts come on ,to keep them entertained adverts that relate to them are being slotted in that space,so if its an advert about the latest toy then they will put in an advert about Toy R US to keep then interested. This would be for all kind of classes as most people have kids and they are only kids so it wouldnt really matter about status at a young age

Selective advertising

This is only adverts that are shown on their network station, that means if you are watching ITV then and your programs about to start then they will then tell you what program is coming on next and the time.

Watch a variety of advertisements in class and decide which technique is being used to sell then product and why.

1. flattering words - l'oreal lipstick
2. seductive voice - marks and spencers
3. excited voice and word plays - foxy bingo

Regulation

Advertisements need to be regulated otherwise it could be subjected to all sorts of imagines that might not be suitable and claims about the product that are not true. Adverts that are broadcast on the televison are regulated by the british committee of advertising practice by the BCAP codes
